Winter RV check up
Tue Jan 12, 2010
Out of sight out of mind doesn’t mean that your camper doesn’t need attention this time of year. This winter has been pretty severe so far, and there have been advisories out for people to check out their roof, vents, etc. The same applies for your camper even when it is in storage. Make a special trip to your camper (weather permitting), and check to see that heavy snow or ice hasn’t damaged any roof vents, air conditioner shrouds, or any other vulnerable areas on your roof.
If you decide to knock off the snow, be extremely careful for your own safety and for the safety of your roof. If the roof is rubber, make sure not to use any chipping tools, and to take care not to tear the rubber when you are clearing the ice and snow.
While you are at the camper, make a quick interior check to make sure that no windows were cracked open allowing snow and ice into the interior, and make sure to double check all the cupboards and storage areas for any forgotten liquids that may have frozen and/or burst. A little preventative maintenance now will take care of any lasting damage that may not show up until spring.
In the meantime, think warm thoughts, and start planning for camping season! It is right around the corner as hard as that is to believe!
